The owner and founder of Makai Bikes, Todd, has lived in two awesome California beach cities over the past 10 years: previously Santa Barbara and now Hermosa Beach. For over 6 years Todd has been fortunate enough to live incredibly close to the beach and the accompanying walking/bicycling path (Locals call it "The Strand") that runs alongside the sand. Living in a beach town with that is so bike friendly made Todd love riding his bike all over town. He cruises his bike to the dentist, to lunch, to the store, or just down the beach to soak up some sun.

A few years ago Todd went out in search of the perfect new beach cruiser bike and spent the better part of a weekend driving all over the area looking for the perfect bike. He was shocked at some of the prices he found, and what a pain shopping for a bike could be. Some of the beach cruisers he found cost $400+ for a basic beach cruiser! This got Todd thinking..."If I could only shop online for this somehow". Then a light went off! It took a ton of planning and research...but fast-forward to 2008 and Todd finally got his Makai Bikes idea off the ground. His original idea of selling awesome bikes at great factory-direct prices in an easy-to-use online store finally came true!
