Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions NOTE: FAQ Information below pertains to
purchases made from MakaiBikes.com only.
- How much does shipping cost?
- All bikes and other products ship free to 48 states! Products shipped to Hawaii and Alaska will pay additional shipping cost. To get a shipping quote to Hawaii or Alaska, just add an item(s) to your shopping cart and get a quote in our online checkout! More shipping info here.
- Can you ship a bike to a P.O. Box or a APO/FPO address?
- No, sorry. We cannot ship bikes to P.O. Boxes or directly to APO/FPO addresses. Bikes can only be shipped to physical addresses. Here is some information about forwarding packages to APO addresses.
- I live local in Southern California. Can I come pick-up a bike instead of having it shipped?
- No, sorry. We are an online store only. One of the ways we are able to offer great prices and offer free shipping is by keeping our overhead costs low and not maintaining a physical retail store. When you place your order online, most orders ship quickly within 2 business days.
- Are the bikes assembled? How much assembly is required?
- Most bikes we sell are approximately 85% assembled and then carefully packed into durable multi-layer cardboard shipping cartons. More bicycle assembly information.
- Assembly of bikes generally involves the following: bolting on front wheel, attaching handlebars, adjusting seat, and attaching fenders/reflectors, if applicable. Some other minor assembly may be required, since some bikes have additional accessories or features. (for example: a water bottle)
- Important note: for your safety, professional assembly is recommended! Most local bikes shops can complete assembly of your new bike for a small fee. We are not responsible for any labor costs you may incur due to paying for professional assembly! We do not advise you to assemble your bike on your own unless you have the required skills and training. Please be advised that you assemble your bike at your own risk.
- What size bicycle should I get?
- What is the credit card verification value on the online checkout page?
- This is a security code on your credit card that is commonly requested by e-commerce stores for security purposes. This code helps protect you from fraud. You can find more information about the credit card verification value here.
- Do you offer discounts?
- Generally, no. We try to offer the best prices we can without making our customers beg for discounts. Occasionally we will offer coupon codes to our past customers...so if you buy from us you might get a coupon from us in the future! And once in a while we will discount a very large order.
- Also, our email newsletter subscribers get alerted about our special deals and big sales. You can sign-up for our email newsletter on the side of this page!
- Is shopping here safe? Will my credit card information be safe?
- How can I check the status of my order?
- I forgot my password. How can I get a new one?
- Do you ship internationally? Can you ship outside the USA?
- Not usually, no. If you are interested in placing an international order you can contact us to request a custom quote. In some cases we are able to accommodate international orders. Due to the weight of bicycles and customs regulations, shipping bicycles outside the USA is generally very expensive.
- How can I return something I bought?
- My bike arrived damaged. What should I do?
- Sorry! This is not usual, but unfortunately this can happen. Please review our damaged bike policy where you can get information on how to claim your damages.
- Do you have a retail store I can visit in person?
- No, sorry. We are internet based bicycle store only! One of the ways we are able to offer great prices and free shipping is by avoiding the costly expense of a physical retail store.

- Do you keep a record of the serial numbers for the bikes you sell?
- No, we do not. If you would like to have your own record of the serial number for a bike you purchased from us, you'll need to write it down. Serial numbers are usually found on the under-side of the crank housing. (The serial number can sometimes be helpful to have if your bike is ever lost or stolen.)

- We actually get this question often. You are not alone! There are many heavier people out there who want to enjoy riding a bike. Please read this page for detailed info on weight limits.
